Lovely grounds and exterior of hotel, as well as the restaurant and bar, which appear to be original. Our room is in a modern outbuilding which has been made to look as old as the hotel from outside but lacks a bit of style inside. The health club and spa is small but well equipped. We had a three course meal on arrival, afternoon tea the following day and breakfast both days, all of which were delicious

I was very disappointed with my experience here. We'd looked for a nice weekend away with a spa and booked some sessions in advance, only to be called the morning of to say there was no therapist available so the sessions had to be rushed through the morning we were due to leave. The staff don't seem well trained at people skills so often came across as rude. When it came to paying for the treatments they were a lot more expensive than listed online and it turns out there is a weekend price hike which is not mentioned anywhere! In general the hotel experience was not bad but the spa needs a lot of work to get up to scratch. The changing rooms and showers are quite grotty, the steam room doesn't work, and the spa treatments themselves were average. The hotel has great potential as its a beautiful building in a wonderful town, but it feels like it misses the mark on almost every front.

This hotel could definitely be better. Sometimes the attitude of the staff and facilities are a little disapointing for what is supposed to be a luxury experience. That being said the room was comfortable and food very nice.

Very nice hotel, stayed in one of the annex rooms carpet a bit thread bare but very clean and tidy. Main hotel very warm and welcoming on a winter's night. Staff very polite and helpful. Evening meal and breakfast very good.

Lovely hotel with lots of character. The staff were all good which always helps to make a visit more pleasurable. The only reason we reduced this to a four star rating instead of five was due to the shower in our room. We stayed in room 10 on the top floor. Unfortunately, being on the top floor resulted in very poor water pressure from the shower, so much so, we considered using the showers in the spa rather than the room which was a shame as everything else was lovely
